About Dark Stories

Every mystery begins with a life.

A ship disappears. A voyage ends in disaster. Someone leaves home and never returns. Behind every headline are people with plans, fears and someone waiting for them.

Dark Stories explores maritime tragedies, unsolved crimes, unexplained disappearances and the darker corners of history. The focus is on the people who lived through these events: the choices they faced, the courage they found and the questions they left behind.

Lost at Sea

The sea has a special place here. Lost at Sea brings together stories of vanished vessels, fatal collisions, desperate escapes and remarkable survival. From well-known disasters to less familiar human tragedies, these stories follow individual lives through the moments when an ordinary voyage became a fight to return home.

Other Stories

Beyond the sea, Other Stories leads into true crime, unresolved mysteries, unsettling history and atmospheric fiction. Some cases have answers. Others still invite competing explanations. Where extraordinary or supernatural claims appear, they are explored as claims and theories, with their evidence and uncertainties made clear.

Facts, questions and imagination

Accounts of real events draw on publicly available historical records and reliable reporting. Documented facts, disputed details and speculation are distinguished, and gaps in the record are acknowledged. Suspense matters, but so does respect for the people whose lives are being told.

Original fictional stories are clearly identified as fiction. Illustrations may include AI-generated scenes; these are illustrative reconstructions, not authentic photographs or evidence of the events described.

Dark Stories is created and edited by Simon Duniec. It is a place for readers drawn to human drama, difficult questions and stories that linger after the final line.
